It Took a Passion Then, It Takes a Passion Now

Jesus Christ came to the world for one purpose and from the time of His birth, men and women sought Him because of this purpose. Shepherds left their flocks to find and worship Him in a stable. Wise men left their schools of learning, traveled approximately two years and brought gifts fit for a king. Herod said “tell me where He is so I can worship also” and then made a law to have baby Jesus killed. When Jesus was brought to the temple according to custom, the Spirit brought Simeon to see this baby. One look into the eyes of Jesus and Simeon’s life was fulfilled and he said now I can die in peace.

At the age of 13, Jesus read scripture and confounded the wise. His parents could not find Him for three days and when they did, He said “didn’t you know that I would be about my father’s business?” He had a purpose. He reveals that purpose to us in Matthew 18 and Luke 19. “I’ve come to seek and to save that which was lost”.

Everybody needs a purpose. There are too many in America with no purpose. They just go thru life from job to job, house to house, wife to wife, and cannot find peace because they have no purpose.

What is your purpose? You can find it today. Jesus knew His purpose and He committed Himself to fulfilling that purpose and that is how I define passion. Passion to me is the commitment to fulfill. Fulfillment comes from Passion to the Purpose.

He had a purpose and after this week everyone is talking about His passion.

White everyone else slept Jesus spent many nights in prayer. While everyone else avoided the demoniac, Jesus went to him and brought him new clothes. While everyone else was scared of the leper, Jesus touched and healed. While everyone else mourned, Jesus stopped the funeral procession and raised the dead.

It took a passion then to submit Himself to the men that He created and set on that earthly throne. It took a passion then to allow the Roman soldiers to beat Him, to slap Him and spit on Him. It took a passion then to not ever open His mouth against them. It took a passion then to carry that cross up the hill. It took a passion to allow them to nail Him to that cross. It took a passion to hang between the heaven He created and the earth He created on a tree He created to die to redeem man that He created.

It took a passion then and it takes a passion now.

Show someone that is successful and I’ll show you a passionate person. If you are going to do anything at all it takes a passion. Show me a passion for educating children and I’ll show you a teacher. Show me a passion for exacting political change and I’ll show you community activist. Show me a passion for playing basketball and I’ll show you Michael Jordan. Show me a passion for golf and I’ll show you Tiger Woods. Show me a passion for doing the will of God and I’ll show you an unstoppable force in our world.

It’s my prayer that a passion for Jesus gets a hold of us so strong that we won’t be satisfied with lukewarm, half in half out, hot one day and cold the next Christianity, but that passion will make us steal away and get alone with Jesus until we are changed. If we would ever focus our passion on God and His stuff nothing would /could stop us.

The world pulls and draws at our flesh (entices us). Jesus said if you want to be my disciple deny yourself and take up your cross .

It took a passion then, it takes a passion now.

Yours for Him,
